'Positive And Friendly' Student Honored by BOCES
Ashleigh Scialo receives George Farber award.

Ashleigh Scialo, representing the Port Washington Unified School District, was among 17 students honored by the Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation with the George Farber Outstanding Student Award for academic achievements, perseverance, enthusiasm and willingness to help others.
Scialo, of Iris Wolfson High School in Greenvale, was honored in April for showing an exemplary character by having a positive and friendly attitude towards administration, teachers and peers, always going out of her way, and making new students feel welcome and relaxed by taking on the role of student ambassador.
"Ashleigh demonstrates passion and drive in every aspect of her life. She comes to Iris Wolfson High School every day motivated and excited to learn, and is a student with a natural ability to help people," said a statement on the BOCES website.
Scialo plans to attend college to become a nurse. She is an active member of her local gym, a surfer and an advocate for animal rights.
Each of the 17 Farber award winners students received a monetary prize provided by Nassau BOCES.
The award is named for BOCES board president George Farber, the longest-serving board member in the county. He served from 1971 to 2009.
