PSEG Power Line Meeting on Monday

The meeting will be held in Port Washington.

PSEG Long Island will present information about a new power line installation project at a meeting at the Harbor Links Clubhouse in Port Washington on Monday, at 7 p.m.

In North Hempstead, the project consists of a five-mile overhead transmission line between Great NEck and Port Washington.

Many have expressed outrage over the utility pole installation, already visible on Port Washington Blvd. Keep the North Shore Beautiful has created an online petition calling for a halt to PSEG Long Island’s power line installation project. As of Sunday, 1,316 supporters had signed.

Residents for A More Beautiful Port Washington, which scheduled a rally for Sunday at 3 p.m., is urging the community to share and sign a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

In assessing customer demand, PSEG reliability engineers determined that there was a critical need for new transmission circuits to reliably serve customers now, Jeffrey Weir, a PSEG Long Island Spokesman said

Locally, government officials have noted that community members want answers to their concerns about the project and asked Cuomo to intervene.

North Hempstead officials say PSEG Long Island will provide a brief overview on the project, followed by an informational session where booths will be staffed by experts on different topics including engineering, tree trimming and replanting, road closures and health concerns.
