Public Meeting to Reveal Plans for the New Alvan Petrus Park
Members of the community are invited to discuss the fate of Port Washington's vacant park.

The Town of North Hempstead will be holding a public meeting in December to discuss proposed plans for the new Alvan Petrus Park.
This 50-year-old park that sits on about 1.5 acres of land was once used by about 250 children and their families.
But Petrus Park became vacant when its property manager closed the park in 2008, Newsday said.

Residents have protested and created petitions and Facebook groups to prevent the park from becoming low income senior housing.
The Town of North Hempstead announced last year that the vacant park will officially be renovated.

At the meeting on Dec. 9, residents will be able to check out the proposed plans at the Port Washington Senior Center, located at 80 Manorhaven Boulevard. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.
Officials at the meeting will discuss the current conditions of the park and the beginning program analysis and concept design of the land, according to Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio.
Town officials and the project team from Cashin Associates, the company assigned to redesign the park, will be on hand to answer any questions.
