PWEF Grants to be Awarded in October

Ingenuity meets with generosity once again as the Port Washington Education Foundation awards 31 educational grants to the Port schools this fall. 

This year's grants will be presented at a ceremony Oct. 17  at 3:30 p.m. in the Slade Performing Arts Center at Schreiber High School 

In all, 31 educational grants will be awarded in an effort by the PWEF to enable Port students and staff to think outside of the box in creative, innovative and smart ways.

Annually, 5,330 students in grades kindergarten through 12 will experience a PWEF grant, according to the PWEF.

Varied 2013 grants will be used for guest speakers like noted Jazz musicians, Jonathan Batiste and bluesman, Little Toby Walker; to technology such as SMART Boards and hands-on tools; refurbishment of the Schreiber TV studio and creation of a media studies program; the Expressive Elocution and Storytime Theater in all five elementary schools; creating clay artifacts and a photo exhibit at Schreiber;  interactive Yoga at Weber; and family events including the Family Run 4 Fun Day.

The PWEF says it appreciates all who support the efforts of the organization, including Superintendent of Schools, Kathy Mooney, school district administrators and directors, the PWTA, board of education members, HSA and PTA leadership, Landmark on Main Street, Parent Resource Center, Port Washington Community Chest, Boy Scouts, Port Washington Public Library and the Port Washington community — both individual and commercial.
