PWWD to Host Student Conservation Community Service Briefing on May 18
Students Will Learn How to Become Stewards of Port's Water

As part of its Do It For Port water conservation campaign, the Port Washington Water District (PWWD) will host its Empowering Youth to Be Stewards of Port’s Water briefing at the Port Washington Public Library on May 18 at 4 p.m. The event will provide students foundational knowledge, tools and a roadmap to get involved with a water conservation community service project.
“While Port Washington is fortunate not to be facing the droughts of the western United States, the need for conservation with a warming climate and being a coastal community is real,” said PWWD Commissioner Mindy Germain. “We have curated an active student exploration of the issues and solutions in collaboration with the Port Washington Public Library, Long Island Science Museum and ReWild Long Island. Students will learn, explore, and have the opportunity to complete a water conservation project over the summer.”
Students grades 3-12 will be presented with grade-appropriate activities. No science background is necessary, as experts will provide all the information the students need. There will be optional field trips to the Long Island Science Museum and a Port Washington Water District Treatment Facility. Realizing May and June are busy seasons, students can submit their project any time over the summer and will receive a certificate of service.
