"Reclaiming Public Education" at Port Washington Public Library on Tuesday, March 24 at 7 pm
A public forum for Parents, Educators, Students and Concerned Community Members.

Dramatic changes in public education resulting from high-stakes testing, Common Core, constraints on school funding, and new teacher evaluations have become an increasing part of the daily news cycle. On Tuesday, March 24th, at 7 pm, the Port Washington Advocates for Public Education will host a forum to share information on these and related education issues. The program will take place at The Port Washington Public Library and is entitled “Reclaiming Public Education – Less Testing, More Teaching.” Dr. Alan Singer of Hofstra University will address the impacts of testing and Common Core on curriculum and instruction; Dr. Sheri Lederman of Great Neck Public Schools will answer whether testing validly reflects our students and teachers, and Ms. Terry Kalb, retired Special Education Teachers will speak to the consequences of testing and Common Core for special education populations. Parents, teachers and community members from Port Washington and neighboring communities are welcome to attend. Please bring your questions and concerns.
