Saturday Mornings At The Port Washington Farmers Market

Port Washington can boast about having the only 100-percent certified organic farmer's market in New York State. Grass Roots Environmental Education owners Doug and Patti Wood came up with this unique concept nine years ago while walking near the current site of the Port Washington Farmers Market. They were inspired to bring healthy fresh organic products to the community and set about to locate farmers, bakers, merchants and fishermen who shared their vision. Each Saturday morning trucks and vans filled with organic produce, baked goods and the daily catch arrive at the parking area of the town dock and the vendors set up their stalls. Crowds of loyal customers start arriving at 8 a.m. and by 12 p.m. the sellers depart with empty vans.
