Searingtown Home Blaze: 100 Firefighters Respond

The fire started in an air conditioning unit, prompting eight fire departments to respond.

SEARINGTOWN, NY — Approximately eight fire departments and 100 firefighters responded to a Searingtown home fire early Tuesday, Nassau police said.

A Piper Drive homeowner called 911 after an air conditioner installed in the wall on the second floor went ablaze around 12:40 a.m., police said. The man, 44, and the seven members of the home got out without injury, police said.

The Albertson Fire Department extinguished the blaze, assisted by seven local departments. No injuries were reported, police said. The Albertson fire chief, the Nassau County fire marshal and Arson Bomb Squad detectives were at the home.

The electrical fire was deemed not suspicious, police said, but the investigation is ongoing.
