The Sixth Precinct, located at 100 Community Drive in Manhasset, closed in 2012 when four of the eight Nassau County precincts were restructured.

It now serves as a community policing center where residents can pick up accident reports and file complaints.

Elected officials plan to speak at the Sixth Precinct location 11:30 a.m. Village mayors, labor leaders, members of law enforcement, civic leaders, community activists and local residents are expected to attend.

The following leaders will be in attendance:

  • Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth
  • Town of North Hempstead Council Members Anna Kaplan, Lee Seeman Peter Zuckerman, and Viviana Russell
  • Nassau County Democratic Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams,
  • Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum
  • Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs

As a result of the 2012 consolidation, the Second Precinct in Woodbury, Third Precinct in Williston Park, Fourth Precinct in Hewlett and Seventh Precinct in Seaford continued to operate as regular precincts, while the First Precinct in Baldwin, Fifth Precinct in Elmont, Sixth Precinct in Manhasset and Eighth Precinct in Levittown became community policing centers.

The consolidation plan reportedly corrected a workload imbalance that had been seen throughout the eight precincts, as three police precincts used to perform twice the workload of the remaining five precincts.
