Skin Cancer Screenings Save Lives
Most people are aware of the dangers of sun exposure, but many don't know that skin cancers are more common than any other form of cancer.

The American Cancer Society estimates that over five million cases of basal and squamous skin cancers are diagnosed each year. Early diagnosis is critical to successful treatment.
Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) recently partnered with Dr. Eve Lupenko to host free skin cancer screenings. During the event, Dr. Lupenko performed free skin exams on approximately 60 attendees who had registered for the session. She and her team also gave free sunscreen to all attendees and discussed the importance of using sun protection year round and getting dermatology exams regularly. “Because most skin cancer cases are curable when caught early, there’s no excuse not to get regular exams,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “Since skin cancer is visible, everyone should learn how to examine themselves and, if they see something that doesn’t look right, have it checked by a dermatologist right away.”
Dr. Lupenko is a Board-certified dermatologist with more than 20 years of experience. She specializes in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology for adults and children. “I am grateful to Dr. Lupenko for volunteering her time to provide these potentially life-saving screenings and look forward to partnering with her in the future on these screening and education events,” DeRiggi-Whitton added. The legislator is very appreciative to the City of Glen Cove for hosting the screenings at City Hall.
