SOUPer Bowl IX to Name Best Local Soups in Port Washington

Residents are invited to taste test a plethora of soups to determine the winner on Saturday.

Who has the best soup in Port Washington?

Residents are invited to find out by taste testing the best soups in the area to decide who will be the 2016 SOUPer Bowl Champ on Saturday.

Seventeen local restaurants and markets have entered the competition. Their soups range from Beef Barley and Minestrone to the more exotic Louisiana Crawfish Crab Corn Chowder and Jamaican Sweet Potato.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, located at 100 Fairway Drive.

To taste the plethora of soups, visitors will pay an admission fee (a $7 “touchdown” fee for adults and a $3 “field goal” fee for children under 12) to receive a hand stamp and a ballot. After trying all the soups, which come with bread and crackers, everyone can vote for their favorite. The soup with the most votes will receive the “People’s Choice Award.”

A select Judges’ Panel of celebrities and culinary experts will also decide which soup will receive the “Judges’ Choice Award.” The panel will include Anne Arter, Len Berman, Joe Canigiani, Julian Phillips, and Steve Remington who is a client at the Helen Keller National Center.

Gift certificates from the winning restaurants will be raffled off.

SOUPer Bowl participants include: Ayhan’s Mediterranean Market, Ayhan’s Shish Kebab, Bosphorus Café Grill, Finn MacCool’s, f.i.s.h. on Main, Frank’s Pizza, Gino’s Pizzeria, Harbor Q, O’Hara’s Ale House & Grill, Organico, Port Thai Place, Port Washington Diner, Rosso Uptown, Sullivan’s Quay, Toscanini, Wild Honey and Yummy Gyro.

The event is organized by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce
