Special Delivery: Nassau Police Help New Mom Give Birth

The baby girl made a speedy entrance into the world in the comfort of a Nassau home Saturday morning.

MANHASSET, NY — It's a girl! Nassau County Police helped deliver a baby after the mother went into active labor at her Manhasset home Saturday morning. Officers Keith Owens and Stacie Torres arrived at the Locust Place home at about 7:43 a.m. and found the mother was in active labor and was being assisted by the baby’s father.

Within a minute of their arrival, the mother delivered a baby girl into the arms of the father, who then handed the newborn baby girl to Owens. Owens then used bulb syringe from his first aid kit to clear the baby’s airway help her breathing. Police Medics Bolivar Graffeo and Dalena Tran evaluated the mother and baby and transported both to North Shore Manhasset Hospital for further evaluation.

Police report that both mother and baby are in good health and doing well.
