Summer Birthdays Celebrated at Senior Center.
A heartfelt tradition started earlier this year by Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton has become an anticipated event among senior birthday babies.
On July 9, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and her youngest daughter, Arianna, helped sixteen summer birthday babies celebrate their special days at the Port Washington Senior Citizens Center.
After Mickey, one of the members of the Center, sang “Happy Birthday to You” a cappella, she joined the Center’s cook Maggie in a beautiful duet of “Feliz Compleanos a Tu.”
Delia’s lovely and helpful daughter Arianna gave each birthday baby a long stem red rose, then held the microphone for each senior to share their secret to a long, happy life. Some of the comments were “keep busy,” “stay positive,” “get regular exercise” and even, “drink scotch!” After the celebration, everyone enjoyed a delicious hot lunch, followed by birthday cake.
