This Cell Phone Could Go a Long Distance

Need a new cell phone? Want to find a unique way to donate to the Haitian relief effort? A local cell phone distributor has the answer.

Two-time Grammy Award-winner and Manhasset resident LL Cool J and Fusion Wireless, an authorized exclusive AT&T agent, have set up an auction for an autographed BlackBerry in an effort to support the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross.

"I can't say how grateful we are that LL Cool J has agreed to help with our fundraising efforts," said Brandon Haenel, vice president of Fusion Wireless. "Pairing the popularity of both the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and LL Cool J is sure to attract many people to help support the cause and we're looking forward to a successful fundraising effort for the victims in Haiti."

Beginning today, the Blackberry Bold 9700, donated by Fusion Wireless and signed by LL Cool J, will be on display at Fusion's AT&T store located at 65 Main Street in Port Washington. The BlackBerry will be auctioned off on eBay from Feb. 5 to Feb. 15.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is the most recent Bold model to be released by Research in Motion and has seen steady sales since its debut in November 2009.

The winning bidder will receive the autographed BlackBerry Bold 9700, a photograph of LL Cool J signing the device, and a $100 gift certificate to Fusion Wireless.

Fusion's Creative & Marketing Director, Allison Lambert, said she is hoping the auction nets at least $600.

"We'll have a starting bid at $150," she said. "While that is a small amount, every little bit helps. With the collectibility of this phone, the auction should be a huge success."
