Tree-1-1 Marries Development 101

The author sees a renaissance on Port Washington Boulevard.

I have lived in Port Washington for over 50 years and was delighted to see all of the dead, ugly, useless, costly and dangerous trees removed from Port Washington Boulevard by Mr. Victor Musso, developer of the beautiful Port Washington Commons. Further, I am thrilled to have witnessed a wonderful renaissance of one of Port Washington Boulevard's largest retail site, which has not been renovated since the 1960’s when Bohack Supermarket (now Rite Aid) and Carnel’s Stationary were tenants.

I think the first sentence of Tree-1-1 Vision should have been, “Thank You Mr. Musso for spending over $5 million on redeveloping a perpetual eyesore, thank you for leasing out space to new tenants who will add and assist in paying over $360,000 in Real Estate Taxes and thank you for legally removing 18 unsightly trees worth $900 ($50 each.)”

I think Tree-1-1 is a super idea if Ms. Mindy Germain can find a way to remove the similar dead, ugly, useless, antiquated, costly and dangerous trees on Main Street (Just grab a slice at Ginos, stand outside and closely observe how decrepit those trees truly are.) Additionally, let’s see if we can find another visionary developer like Mr. Musso to redevelop the unattractive facades on Main Street and, demolish excess buildings for parking.

I look forward to seeing many of Ms. Mindy Germain’s “special Tree-1-1 tags” on all the trees on Main Street “ to notify people in the area,” and then waiting “five business days to comment on the proposed removal of the tree” and if no one comes forth, let’s chop them down and replace them with the right “trunk diameter requirement.”

I also applaud Mr. Bob Weitzner, Mayor of the Village of Port Washington North, Town Councilman Fred Pollack, Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink, Ms. Jennifer Rimmer for her work when employed by Sustainable Long Island, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Messrs. Eric Pick, Ken Buettner and Dan Donatelli for directly or indirectly supporting Tree-1-1 Vision.

With the assistance of all of these fine folks and Tree-1-1 in full effect, all of the Residents of Port Washington can start taking action to have all current ugly and dangerous trees on Main Street and Port Boulevard removed and replaced with new ones for the continued beautification of our Port Washington.
