The original ceremonial dress was blue gowns for boys and white gowns for girls before the district decided upon a mix of the two gowns after a request by an unidentified student, according to the article. All students will wear blue gowns and white stoles, Newsday reports.
This change looks to make sure transgender students aren't forced to wear a gown that doesn’t match their gender.
Schreiber’s graduation ceremony will be held Tuesday, June 23.
Greenwich High School in Connecticut made the decision earlier in the year to implement gender-neutral gowns, but the decision was reversed after a student-run petition.
