White As Snow

White as Snow

Somewhere along the line it has become typical for someone in our family to refer to Isaiah 1:18 when it snows. In that verse the LORD gives a wonderful image of forgiveness of sins:

Isaiah 1:18  "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

The Scripture is wonderfully relentless in showing how sinners can be fully accepted before God. Romans is a towering theological treaties on how God washes away the sin of all who trust in Jesus the resurrected Savior who lived and died in the place of sinners. Romans along with the other epistles (letters) provide clear and precise teaching regarding salvation. But throughout the rest of Scripture the Lord gives images of forgiveness that help to paint a picture of the truth that we find in the New Testament epistles. For example:

For example, how far has God removed the sins of those who trust in Jesus alone?

Psalm 103:12  As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Micah 7:19   He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea.

So tomorrow morning when you wake up and see the beautiful snow let it remind you of what Jesus came to do for us that we might be washed white as snow. Look quick though because in a few short hours the roads will not reflect this beautiful image, instead, it will reflect what God saves sinners from!
