Singer Laurie Krauz and Musical Director/PianistDaryl Kojak perform their critically-acclaimed cabaret show TAPESTRY REWOVEN at Union Temple after Friday night services.
Enjoy Laurie’s gorgeous interpretation of Carole King’s classic “Tapestry” album – UNPLUGGED – just voice and piano.
For years, singer Laurie Krauz has thrilled New York cabaret audiences with her award-winning, blues-influenced jazz vocals and her powerful emotional range. Named one of the top 500 jazz vocalists of all time in a book by noted jazz critic Scott Yanow (“The Jazz Singers”/Backbeat Books), Laurie has played to standing ovations at legendary venues such as JVC Jazz Festival, B.B. King Blues Club, The Blue Note and Iridium. She is a three-time Female Jazz Vocalist MAC Award winner; and, along with Musical Director Daryl Kojak, was honored with a 2009 Back Stage Bistro Award for their hugely popular show, “Tapestry Rewoven,” a stunning re-imaging of Carole King’s classic 1971 album “Tapestry”
Over the past two years, Krauz, Kojak and their 9-piece band (including backup singers) have rocked this show in Manhattan’s Metropolitan Room. Now Union Temple congregant and cabaret critic Stephen Hanks has brought Krauz, Kojak and their superb show--an “Unplugged” version--to Union Temple for its “Third Friday” cultural program on November 21 at 8pm (after Shabbat Services). And you can’t beat the ticket price, as this event is FREE.
Heralded as “brilliant,” “genius” and “a hurricane of entertainment,” the tribute show presents novel interpretations of the iconic original in its entirety and has been touted for being fresh, new and musically inventive - while still being reverent to the brilliance of the original. Experience “Tapestry Rewoven” and Feel the Earth Move!
Here’s what some critics had to say about Krauz and “Tapestry Rewoven.”
“Krauz kept the King sweetness in “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” while turing it into a jazzy ballad. In answer to the song’s question – yes, Laurie Krauz, after this show and it’s brilliant song interpretations, I will love you tomorrow … and always.”
--Stephen Hanks, BroadwayWorld.com
“Extraordinary work. Every element and every moment contribute unerringly to an unforgettable, quite remarkable whole.”-- Roy Sander, Bistro Award critic and columnist
“... it could be a masterwork not unlike her idol’s.”
--David Finkle, Back Stage
“Three decades after its release, jazz thunderbolts, Laurie Krauz and Daryl Kojak are reweaving the soft rock of Carole King’s Tapestry, and the audience is feeling the earth move.... Tapestry Rewoven is a unique work of contemporary jazz.... Although it is not yet a CD, Tapestry Rewoven promises to deliver its own stamp of ‘classic.’” --Elizabeth Ahlfors, Cabaret Scenes
