George Gilmore + Rhythm Tolee + Mike O'Malley & the Beastie Band @ The Way Station

Live Music: December 4, 2015, 8pm-12am, The Way Station, 683 Washington Ave, BK, http://waystationbk.blogspot.com/ $5 suggested donation

8pm- George Gilmore
Genre: Folk, Singer/songwriter
For fans of: Nick Lowe, Leonard Cohen, Justin Townes Earle, Kris Kristofferson

This New York City veteran singer/songwriter/guitar slinger has been a mainstay on the Americana/roots-rock scene for over two decades. His latest (I am a Weed) finds him in great form on these (lucky) 13 tunes exploring the journey of life with and without love, accompanied by an able stable of well-known Big Apple players. Tops for me is his gospel-fueled offering “The Good Lord Smote My Eye.”

“Tolee” is a word from Punjabi language which means “a free spirited group of people”. That is exactly what Rhythm Tolee is, a group of free spirited artists with Rhythm. We make a fun combination (or Tolee) to deliver Punjabi folk, Sufi and Bhangra music.

11pm- Mike O’Malley & the Beastie Band
Genre: Screamer-Songwriter.
For fans of: Tom Waits, Glen Hansard, The Decemberists, Fiona Apple

Mike O’Malley carries a lot of anger around. He endeavors to funnel said extra energy into a rollicking, kinetic set of folk songs for drinking, howling, and stomping to. He would specifically love to howl with you.
