Man Shot By Cops After Crown Heights Standoff: NYPD
NYPD confirmed a "police involved shooting" near Kingsborough Houses after they said officers found a man shot and a suspect with a gun.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — NYPD officers shot an armed man in Crown Heights late Tuesday after an apparent standoff near Kingsborough Houses, authorities said.
Officials confirmed a "police involved shooting" that unfolded at about 9:30 p.m. NYPD Chief Terence Monahan said at a news conference that officers responding a report of gunshots saw a wounded man as they arrived at Rochester Avenue and Bergen Street.
Witnesses told officers the shooter — a man — was further up Bergen Street, Monahan said. They found him hiding behind a tree, he said.

"The male was armed with a gun, they observed a gun in his hand," Monahan said. "The officers gave orders to the male to drop the weapon for over a minute. That is on body cam and on witnesses' Facebook account.
"The male refused the orders of the officers. The officers discharged their weapons at the individual and struck him."

About 10 officers shot "numerous rounds" at the man, killing him, Monahan said.
The victim from the initial shooting is being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound, as are police for "tinnitus," Monahan said. He said police recovered an illegal gun at the scene. Both the original shooting and the police shooting are under investigation.
The shooting unfolded as New York City was gripped by another day and evening of protests over the killing of Minneapolis man George Floyd and police brutality.
"This incident is not related to the ongoing protests," Monahan said.
Monahan referred to a Facebook video showing residents shouting at him to drop the gun. A video circulating online matching the description doesn't provide a clear glimpse of the shooting itself, but shows several bystanders yelling at the man.
"Drop the gun," they shouted before numerous gunshots are heard.
