No-shows Doom Lady Cardinals

Prospect Heights' coach is concerned about a lack of commitment on the team.

Prior the 2010-11 basketball season, Prospect Heights Lady Cardinals Head Coach Cheez Ezenekwe preached the concept of commitment to his team.  However, after one regular season game it is apparent that the commitment is not there.

Ezenekwe tipped off against Wingate Educational Campus in the their season opener without the player the head coach labeled his best shooter, Robin Shelton.  Shelton along with another Lady Cardinals player did not show up for Tuesday's game.  Without their best offensive player on the court Prospect Heights struggled.  Wingate scored the first 12 points of the contest and never looked back en route to a 59 to 14 victory.

Alisha Ogbewele torched the Cardinals for 31 points in the contest as Prospect Heights' reserves logged major minutes as they were without two starters.  Tiara Dimmons lead the Cardinals with 10 points but the short-handed roster struggled to put the ball in the basket against the Generals.

Coach Ezenekwe was disappointed by the fact that two of his key players were not in attendance for Tuesday's game without any notification.  The third year head coach plans to handle the situation before the second game of the season.

"I am going to meet with them tomorrow and find out what they really want to," Ezenekwe tsaid.  "If they want to quit then let me know. They can't keep doing this all the time.  Other people are depending on them and their teammates are depending on them."

While several Prospect Heights players were upset over the absence of two starters the team, but they haven't lost all hope.  The team believes it can succeed if they cut down on turnovers and improve their offensive execution.  However, before they can do that, the coach has to find a way to get everyone on board.

"This is the beginning but we have to find some commitment, " said Ezenekwe. "We have to find some commitment or this going to be a very long season. The bottom line is players have to be committed if you are not committed then you are wasting your time."

Their next game is against East New York Family Academy on Thursday.
