NYC Correction Officer Arrested for Drunk Driving in Brooklyn

Police say they stopped Cleshae McCray, 41, around 5:30 a.m.

A New York City correction officer was arrested Saturday morning at 5:23 a.m. for drunk driving in Brooklyn, police say.

The driver has been identified as Cleshae McCray, a 41-year-old woman who works for the City of New York Department of Correction (DOC).

McCray was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), so she apparently blew over a 0.8.

The New York Daily News is reporting that her arrest followed a ”booze-fueled crash” on Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights.

A spokesperson for the DOC says, “The matter is under investigation.”

According to its website, the DOC ”provides for the care, custody, and control of persons accused of crimes or convicted and sentenced to one year or less of jail time.”

The Department manages 15 inmate facilities, 10 of which are located on Rikers Island. In addition, the Department operates two hospital Prison Wards (Bellevue and Elmhurst hospitals) and court holding facilities in Criminal, Supreme, and Family Court in each borough.

The Department handles over 100,000 admissions each year and manages an average daily inmate population of approximately 14,000 individuals.

McCray has been suspended as the incident is investigated. City records show her salary was $73,731 per year, as of 2010.

Note: A previous version of this article identified the driver as ”Cleashe,” not “Cleshae,” based on info provided by the NYPD.
