Prospect Heights Music & Arts Festival featuring Zuni Mountain Boys + Pete Lanctot + Moondrunk + Artanker Convoy + Breanna Barbara @ The Way Station

Live Music: July 15, 2015, 7pm-12am, The Way Station, 683 Washington Ave, BK, http://waystationbk.blogspot.com/ $5 suggested donation

7pm- Zuni Mountain Boys
The Zuni Mountain Boys are an Americana duo based out of Brooklyn, NY. Connor McGinnis and Matt Campbell formed the group in early 2014. They recorded their first EP in East Nashville in late May over two days, and released it via bandcamp in August 2014. The five song EP consists predominantly of two acoustic guitars, and two part harmonies with Connor singing the leads, and Matt accompanying. Dobro and piano are the only other accents on the recording, leaving the sound spare, with little more than is necessary to deliver the song. The lyrics hesitate to dip into the abstract, and instead paint the sound with ordinary images that allow the listener to arrive at something larger on their own. https://thezunimountainboys.bandcamp.com/

8pm- Pete Lanctot and the Stray Dogs
Genre: Experimental Folk Blues
For fans of: Tom Waits, John Cale, Ernest Tubb, The Mississippi Sheiks

New York Music Daily writes that, “Pete Lanctot personifies pretty much everything good about New York’s most happening music scene” His songs are surreal and mysterious narratives featuring sordid casts of characters who’s origins are vague, and seem equally likely to be found in present day New York City, a Memphis juke joint of the 1920s or hitchhiking a depression era plains state highway. Steeped in American traditions of blues, folk and country. Backed by The Stray Dogs, a talented and versatile cast of musicians and improvisers Lanctot’s music is original, rabble rousing, heartbreaking and soul searching, always exploring the non-traditional without relying on reproduction.

9pm- Moondrunk
Genre: Indie Singer/Songwriter
For fans of: The XX, Ben Harper, First Aid Kit

Moondrunk is a New York-based folk trio that jumps from heartbreak to humor before you can finish your whiskey. Andrew Bancroft’s original lyrics and guitar are complemented by Ashley Perez Flanagan’s powerful vocals. The talented multi-instrumentalist Yair Evnine rounds out the group’s sound with professional cello, guitar, looping sounds, and more. If the mood strikes, you may get wrapped up an audience-inspired freestyle rap. Either way, you will hear something new and from the heart.

Andrew Bancroft has been has been featured on Mtv’s TRL and in Rolling Stone and TIME. He has performed alongside Broadway star and band-mate Lin-Manuel Miranda with the popular hip hop group Freestyle Love Supreme.

Yair Evnine has performed in countless venues and shows, include Late Nate with David Letterman and a highly successful tour to Edinburgh and beyond with Lady Rizo.

“Even better, Ashley Perez Flanagan…delivers a sweetly touching ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall.’” –The New York Times (review of Evita)

10pm- Artanker Convoy
Genre: psych pop
For fans of: Can, The Faces, Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Best known for their tripped out take on dirty jazz a la Miles Davis 1970, Convoy has dropped their keys & synthesizers in favor of 3 part harmonies over a blown out southern rock sound. The rhythms of drummer Artanker still surprise and keep the crowd shuffling its feet. The clean new sound of Convoy rips through the party but still takes you on occasional psychedelic hayrides.

The Wire
“equal parts funk and freakout. There are definite tinges of Miles Davis’ early 70s groups.”

Seattle Weekly:
“…like Can; each song grows organically into something awkwardly suited for a dance party of sorts.”

11pm- Breanna Barbara
Genre: BLUES AMERICANA ROCK N ROLL
For fans of: WANDA JACKSON, JESSE MAE HEMPHILL, THE VENTURES, ELVIS, THE ROLLING STONES, LINK WRAY, LEAD BELLY, HANK WILLIAMS SR, HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF, THE BLACK KEYS, THE WHITE STRIPES,

Breanna Barbara and her band have been playing together since late summer 2014, having met each other after sharing the bill at Trash Bar. Their roster has Breanna playing rhythm guitar while unleashing ferocious vocals, with Rowan Brind on the kit, Forrest Hackenbrock holding down bass, Peter Victor-Gasper chiming in on lead guitar and Paul Thomas Truitt on the organ. After having all met it became immediately apparent that their mutual influences in blues, grunge and dirty rock and roll were whispering through the winds, demanding innovative imaginations; they became modern alchemists over the course of the autumn, converting old metals into the new alloy of their explosive and haunting sound. Now based out of Ridgewood, the band has been playing shows throughout New York City in promotion of the up and coming release of their debut album, Mirage Dreams, which was recently recorded/produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff) in Nashville, TN at The Bomb Shelter. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch this five piece freight train play, you won’t regret getting on board the express line of their cathartic and visceral sonic odyssey.

“intriguing, intense, fun, lo-fi original punk blues resonator guitarist/singer Breanna Barbara ignites the stage with vocals so raw powerful you leave hypnotized ” – New York Daily Music
