Prospect Park Rape Suspect Arrested, Cops Say

Mowngly​ Lucas, of Queens, faces criminal charges for raping a woman in the Prospect Park Parade Ground, police said.

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN -- A Queens man has been charged with raping a woman in the Prospect Park Parade Ground earlier this month, police said.

Mowngly Lucas, 28, was arrested on rape charges Wednesday, about 10 days after a 59-year-old woman was attacked near Parkside Avenue and Parade Place on Nov. 18 at about 4 a.m., said police.

The 59-year-old woman's attacker grabbed her from behind and dragged her behind a bench where he raped her, police said.

The rapist then pulled her inside a van tried unsuccessfully to molest her again, stole $10 from her purse and ran away down Parkside Avenue, police said.

Police arrested Lucas, of Queens, the same day they released surveillance footage of a suspect entering the Franklin Avenue 2 and 3 station in Crown Heights, police said.

Lucas was charged with rape, strangulation, sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment robbery and burglary, said police.

The Queens man had been released on his own recognizance after an arrest for robbery, assault and menacing in Brooklyn on July 14, court records show.
