Reverend John Delore + Ian Fisher & The Present + Lanusa + The Rungs @ The Way Station

Live Music: November 4, 2015, 8pm-12am, The Way Station, 683 Washington Ave, BK, http://waystationbk.blogspot.com/ $5 suggested donation

8pm- Reverend John Delore
Genre: Americana/Country
For fans of: Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Tom Petty, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals

The Reverend John DeLore grew up in Wisconsin. At the age of 24 he moved to Brooklyn, set up his father’s old Smith Corona electric typewriter, and started hammering away. After a few fun (but failed) collaborations, DeLore began recording albums under the moniker “The Reverend John DeLore” (for those who fear he’s one of those “preachy” reverends, let us inform you that he was “ordained” online after a night of whiskey). All three of the Reverend’s albums have been praised as much for their memorable melodies as for the poetic depth of their lyrics. The Reverend John DeLore has opened for Eric Burdon & the Animals (Fillmore East/Irving Plaza) and the Gourds, has toured the US, and his album “Little John the Conqueror” was recognized as “Brilliant” by New York Magazine’s Approval Matrix.

9pm- Ian Fisher & The Present
Genre: Americana/Country
For fans of: Johnny Cash, Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, The Lumineers, Bob Dylan, My Morning Jacket

Ian Fisher is a little man with a big voice, who is based in Berlin, Germany, and was raised on a farm in Missouri, USA. He has played hundreds of concerts all over the world. His songs, like the man himself, are short, simple, and honest. He is a 21st Century Country musician... just without a country. ‘Nero’, his debut album as Ian Fisher, came out in October (USA) and in January (EUR) on Snowstar Records.

“That man sings like his life depends on it! Ian Fisher has an intensity that truly strikes me. You can feel that he puts everything into each and every song he sings.” - Stern Magazine

“When Ian Fisher takes the stage he is like an old legend or troubadour, with all his energy lurking inside while appearing nothing but calm. It’s then that you can tell that that man belongs in front of an audience just the way he is.”

10pm- Lanusa
Genre: Soul folk
For fans of: Ianne La Havas, Valerie June, Ani DiFranco

The heavy influences of Soul, Jazz and R&B vocals and feel focused in stylistic new folk sound topped with lyrical philosophizing that sometimes requires a bit of picking apart. A lot of love and a lot of purpose. Dark, wide, soaring and earnest. Garners atypical rhythms and a solid backbeat.

“Large audiences with short attention spans are often wary of complex chord changes and atypical tunings. But, resting smoothly and simply atop the guitar, Lanusa’s voice consummates the essence of songwriting, manifesting melodies as pure as air and as addictive as wine, enticing the palette well after the conclusion. And her lyrics, born of a certain philosophical inertia... hit home with resonating pungency.”

11pm- The Rungs
Genre: Synth-pop
For fans of: St Etienne, Camera Obscura, The Cardigans, Sixpense None the Richer

Cutting their own path while bringing back a few styles from the past, The Rungs are an indie pop duo formed by Mandy and Diwas Gurung.

“Think Dubstar, St Etienne and a more relaxed Bis (i.e. after the sugar come down) all produced by Beck and E from Eels, if you will, and you’ll be getting close to the truth of The Rungs. The gorgeous truth.” - Listen with Monger

“When I unknowingly crack a little smile after absorbing it across music that molds different sounds and unusual textures into songs with a unique familiarity I have never quite experienced before. That’s where THE RUNGS come in. Leaving me intrigued and pining for more.” - Through My Headphones
