The Flanks + The Staggers + Lily Virginia + Conrad y Skordalia @ The Way Station

8pm- The Flanks
Genre: Roots Music/Folk/Americana
For fans of: John Prine, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson

Based in Brooklyn, the Flanks have been playing in venues all over the New York City area and beyond since 2002. Their original, danceable, lyric-driven music draws on old-time, jug band, pre-war blues, bluegrass, honky-tonk, and outlaw country styles, as well as rock influences like The Band and Little Feat. Driven by full harmonies and rough around every edge, the thoroughly live sound of the Flanks—dubbed by some as “dirty country”—has won widespread admiration for the group among audiences across the region.

"Rollicking!" —The New Yorker

"The Flanks just blew my mind. They play this old-timey, country-folk music complete with guitars, harmonica, fiddle, upright bass, and some of the most beautifully sung harmonies I've ever heard. . . . One of the most wonderful shows I've ever seen." —Brooklyn Vegan

9pm- The Staggers
Genre: Americana
For fans of: Gillian Welch, John Prine

The Staggers play original and traditional Americana music. Like those of generations before, they were raised in the country, moved to the city seeking work, and brought their music with them. The result is old school country music - sometimes raucous, sometimes subdued - but always authentic. Comprised of fiddle, guitar, and upright bass, this trio's vocal harmonies will bring back memories of country living, whether or not you’ve done any.

10pm- Lily Virginia
Genre: Indie folk pop
For fans of: Sharon Van Etten, Bon Iver, Black Keys, Fleetwood Mac

Her delicately powerful voice and carefully crafted lyrics hold a strength in their raw vulnerability. With influences as varied as Fleetwood Mac to the Pixies, PJ Harvey to Bon Iver, Lily Virginia brings together americana, rock and pop to create an experience where each song can exists on its own. Raised in the wild hippie west of Northern California, Lily has lived a few different lives. From studying music in Argentina and Brazil, to a 7 year stint as a ninja, to love, heartbreak, and magic, she's carefully folded these experiences into her knapsack of songstories. She unpacked her bag 4 years ago in Brooklyn and has called NYC home ever since.
