Avoid “Holiday Heart": Blood Pressure Screening at Plaza College

Combination of Holiday Stress and Overindulgence Results in Heart Problems; Forest Hills College Offering Free Blood Pressure Screenings

Dr. Darryl Anderson, director of the Medical Assistant program at Plaza College in Queens, will join his students to offer tips on preventing “holiday heart” syndrome, when a combination of stress and excessive consumption of fatty and salty foods and alcoholic beverages results in heart problems such as high blood pressure, cardiac arrythmia, and even an elevated risk for a heart attack occurring at higher levels in December and January each year.

With Dr. Anderson, the hospital medical assistants students will discuss prevention strategies, as well as the importance of having your blood pressure checked with screenings on site for the media, and other medical tests and check-ups to spot potential trouble signs early.
