- Police are investigating after an off-duty NYPD lieutenant was hurt in a deadly shooting with a suspect near 57th Street and Northern Boulevard in Woodside. The officer was walking to his vehicle when multiple men approached him and at least one gunman shot him multiple times. The lieutenant, who was carrying his service weapon at the time, returned fire at one of the suspects and killed the unidentified man. (NBC New York)
- A Queens pizzeria is in danger of closing after nearly five decades. Anna Sapienza, owner of Jack's Pizza & Pasta in The Bay Terrace Open-Air Shopping Center, will have to vacate soon because her lease is not being renewed due to a financial disagreement regarding rent. Anna's daughter, Laura Sapienza, said that while they'll be closing their doors sometime next month, they have something else in store. (WETM - MyTwinTiers.com)
- Two Andean bear cubs born at the Queens Zoo over the summer are now on public display. The nameless cubs, a male and a female, spent months in a den nursing and bonding with their mother and are now actively exploring the outdoor bear habitat. The Queens Zoo, located inside Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, is open every day. (FOX 5 NY)
