Free Family Festival at Discovery Center: Meet the Veggies

Step out of the cold doldrums and hit the Discovery Center located in the Queens Public Library for a cool veggie-themed event that is sure to warm up the entire family! It's free, and the kids will want to share the fun "Veggie Menu" of things to do with you.

• The highly engaging and informative program “Family Festival: Meet The Veggies” will be run by hands-on science educators from GrowingGreat and The Discovery Center. There will be educational workshops for children, with 5 activity stations throughout the science center and library where families will take a “Veggie Menu” with them to be stamped at each station

• At the Discovery Center Family Festival, kids will participate in 5 station activities that are geared towards encouraging children to get “hooked on veggies,” including:
• Children will also receive a free Garden Lites lunch tote and Garden Lites free product coupons.

• Station 1: Veggie Prints uses vegetables as stamps to make artwork.
• Station 2: Storytelling offers reading books throughout the day.
• Station 3: At the Planting station, the children will be offered seeds, pots and soil for them to plant a vegetable to take home.
• Station 4: How Vegetables can be used in baked goods: Garden Lites muffins’ first and primary ingredients are vegetables and the children will learn first-hand how vegetables can be delicious in baked foods. The children will see how many veggies are actually baked into each delicious muffin, as demonstrated by a clear wheel filled with vegetables such as carrots and zucchini.

• Station 5: Count Your Veggies: A large graph will be in the lobby of the museum. Throughout the day, visitors will add a sticker of their favorite vegetable to the graph, collecting data to find out which vegetable everyone likes best.

WHEN/WHERE:

• Garden Lite’s event “Family Festival: Meet the Vegetables” will be on January 21st at The Discovery Center at the Queens Public Library in Jamaica, NY on from 11 am. to 2 p.m.
• The Discovery Center is located within the Queens Public library, located at 89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica, Queens, New York.
