Queens neighborhood 'uneasy' after alleged squatter moves in (abc7ny.com) — Neighbors in Bayside, Queens say an unknown man has been living for more than two years in a deceased resident's vacant home, leaving them worried and frustrated as the foreclosure and Surrogate's Court process drags on. A public administrator is now seeking to evict any illegal occupants, and residents are waiting to see if a warrant of eviction will finally restore peace on their block.
   

2. Car break-ins spark fear among Rego Park residents (pix11.com) — Rego Park neighbors in Queens say a wave of car break-ins along 62nd Drive has them feeling unsafe, especially with incidents happening even around school-time mornings. Residents report suspects using mopeds and obscured plates, and while police respond after each crime, locals are pushing the 112th Precinct for stronger overnight patrols as grand larceny rises sharply in the area.
   

3. NYC adds 40 miles of new truck routes in first revision since 1970s (nydailynews.com) — Queens is slated to get about 16 miles of new designated truck routes as part of New York City's first major truck network overhaul since the 1970s. The DOT says the changes should keep more trucks on major corridors and away from residential streets, while also upgrading safety features along affected roads across the borough.

New York City church pushes to preserve burial ground tied to early generations of free Black Americans (thegrio.com) — A historic Black burial ground beneath a parking lot in Elmhurst is at the center of a new push to secure landmark status and city ownership in Queens. Local church leaders and advocates want the site transformed into a memorial that honors early generations of free Black New Yorkers and preserves an important chapter of Queens' post-emancipation history.
   

5. Work progressing on seven construction projects across Elmhurst (qns.com) — If you live in Elmhurst, expect big changes as seven major projects reshape local blocks, from a new FDNY firehouse on Grand Avenue to fresh apartment buildings on Queens Boulevard, Broadway and Dongan Avenue. A new school and church are also underway, with most construction wrapping between late 2026 and 2027, bringing more housing, community space and city services.
