QUEENS, NY — Queens has the fewest mental health providers of the five boroughs, a new study found.
Queens has the worst access to therapists of any of the five boroughs, with just one mental health professional for every 680 residents, according to health nonprofit Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's 2019 county health rankings.
That translates to about 3,500 therapists, marriage counselors and other mental health professionals in the entire borough. More than 2.3 million people live in Queens, according to the report.

Manhattan leads the city in access to mental health professionals, with one for every 130 residents, the data shows. The Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island fare much worse, according to the study; the Bronx has one therapist per every 540 residents, Brooklyn has one per every 510 residents and Staten Island has one per every 480 residents.
Almost a third of Americans live in a county with a shortage of mental health professionals, according to the nonprofit.
