2 Accused Of Stealing Cooking Oil From Wading River Eateries: Police
A private investigator was hired to nab the cooking oil thieves, who were caught in the act, police say.
WADING RIVER, NY — Cooking oil thieves were nabbed after stealing from Wading River eateries, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, on July 21 at 3 a.m., authorities were contacted by a private investigator hired to follow suspects who have been stealing cooking oil from various locations throughout Long Island.
The investigator reported that he'd observed two people stealing oil from North Tavern, Phil's Restaurant, and Senor Taco, all in Wading River, police said.

A total of more than $700 worth of cooking oil was stolen from all three locations, police.
Riverhead police responded in coordination with the investigator, and the two men were caught in the act, police said.

A man, 24, from Flushing, and another man, 62, from Brooklyn were arrested and charged with three counts of petty larceny each, police said. Both were taken to the Riverhead Police Department for processing and released on a desk appearance ticket, police said.
