2 Injured In Riverhead Head-On Rollover Crash: PD

One of the vehicles overturned, police say

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two people were injured in a head-on, rollover crash in Riverhead Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the crash took place at 2:35 p.m. in front of the Gulf gas station on County Route 58. One vehicle overturned, police said.

Riverhead police detectives and the New York State Police accident reconstruction team responded and determined that a 2008 Honda Accord, driven by a 57-year-old man, was heading west on CR 58 when he crossed over the turning lane into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2010 Toyota Highlander driven by a woman, 38, who was heading east, police said.

The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the man to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries; the woman was also taken to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
