2 Juveniles Charged After Attacking Someone Outside LI Store: Police

They were charged with third-degree assault, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two juveniles were arrested in Riverhead earlier in November after they attacked a man outside a store, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place on November 10 at about 6:16 p.m. outside T.J. Maxx on Old Country Road. An anonymous caller reported that a group of four to five juveniles appeared to be in dispute with a male, police said.

Upon police arrival they found the male, who has no known address, with injuries to his face, police said. He reported being asleep when he was struck in the head by someone he didn't know, police said.

He was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's COPE unit conducted an investigation into the incident, which revealed that the individual was attacked by two juvenile males who were arrested and charged with third-degree assault, police said.

The juveniles were processed in the presence of their parents/guardians and transported to Family Court for arraignment, police said.
