2 Riverhead Robberies In 1 Day; 1 Man Hit In Face With Gun: Cops

One man was struck in the face with a gun and another was found screaming for help, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two men were robbed in Riverhead Monday and injured, one struck in the face in the face with a gun, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, at 8:07 p.m., officers responded to Robinson Parkway near Ostrander Ave. where a man, after an attempted robbery, was found with injuries to his face.

Two men pulled up to him in a vehicle as he was riding his bicycle; they got out of the car and assaulted him while attempting to remove his wallet, police said. The men fled the area when a neighbor came out after hearing the victim scream for help, police said.

The man was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for injuries sustained during the robbery; PBMC reported that he was being transported to another hospital for possible serious injuries to his head, police said.

Next, a second robbery was reported to the Riverhead Police Department on Griffing Ave. at 8:30 p.m., police said.

The man was walking down the street when a vehicle drove past him and stopped; numerous males exited the vehicle and surrounded him — one displayed a gun and struck the victim in the face with the gun, police said.

They continued to assault the victim and removed a bag and money from him, then fled in unknown direction, police said.

The man was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during the robbery, police said.

Police believe both incidents may be related and the investigation is ongoing, authorities said. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed either incident is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential.
