22 Busted on 42 Charges in Crackdown on Drugs, Crime in Riverside, Flanders, Riverhead: Police

The ultimate goal was to make communities safer, police said.

RIVERHEAD, NY - April 6, 2016 – Residents crying out for relief from illegal activities and crime in the Riverside, Flanders and Riverhead communities saw some relief recently, after a crackdown resulted in 22 arrests, police said.

New York State Police, Southampton Town Police, and Riverhead Town Police reported Wednesday that 22 individuals were apprehended in a widespread, month-long cooperative police operation to stop illegal activities in the Riverside, Flanders, and Main Street Riverhead areas, with the ultimate goal to make the communities safer.

As a result of the operation, the following individuals were arrested and charged as follows, police said:

One man, 73, of Riverhead, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest.

Another, 19, of East Hampton was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Jermaine Briggs, 37, of Riverhead, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a felony, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Riverside man, 35, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Jessica Chmielewski, 28, of Riverside, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

A Hampton Bays man, 45, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

A Riverhead man, 54, was charged with disorderly conduct.

A Riverhead woman, 28, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

A man, 18, of East Yaphank, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Brentwood man, 39, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

An East Marion man, 38, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree and possession of a hypodermic Instrument.

Lakiwa Kelly, 29, of Shirley, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony, and aggravated operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

Michael Kennedy, 25, of Riverhead, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Terrence Lee, 26, of Riverhead, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

A man, 34, of Bellport, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth and seventh degrees, possession of a forged Instrument in the third degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Riverside man, 47, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree.

A Southampton man, 31, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Riverhead man, 22, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Calverton man, 48, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Riverhead man, 74, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Shirley man, 22, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.

A Calverton man, 35, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree.

Due to the success of the multi-agency effort, all police departments said they will continue to combine intelligence and resources to apprehend more offenders to keep local communities safe.
