23 Self-Storage Units Burglarized In Calverton: Police

Some of the locks were cut and other metal, roll-up doors were pried open, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Police are searching for three men they say burglarized a self-storage facility in Calverton early Friday morning.

According to Riverhead Town police, at 8:58 a.m., a call came in about a burglary at the U-Haul Moving & Storage facility on River Road, where several buildings house self-storage units of various sizes.

An employee responding to work saw several units, which appeared to have been damaged or forcibly entered through the metal roll-up doors, police said.

Police said 23 units were affected; some of the locks were cut while other roll-up doors had been pried open, police said. Items were removed from a number, if not all, of the 23 units, police said.

A review of surveillance footage from the facility showed that there were three men in a dark-colored SUV involved in the incident during the early morning hours.
