3 Arrested At Riverhead St. Patrick's Day Sobriety Checkpoints: PD

89 summonses were also issued, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Three people were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Riverhead on St. Patrick's Day, police said.

Multiple DWI checkpoints were conducted, and roving patrols were out, Riverhead Town police said. In addition to the three arrests, 89 summonses were issued, police said.

Julio C. Lopez Argueta, 37, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with felony DWI, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, false personation, operating without an interlock device, and additional traffic violations, police said. Lopez Argueta's vehicle was impounded as per Suffolk County Seizure Law, police said.

Edin Vargas, 22, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with DWI and additional traffic violations, police said.

Genaro Lucas Chub, 29, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI and additional traffic violations, police said.

All three were transported to the Riverhead police department for processing and held for morning arraignment, police said.

In addition, 89 summonses were issued during the checkpoints and patrols for issues ranging from equipment violations, uninspected, unregistered, and uninsured vehicles, and seatbelt violations to unlicensed and aggravated unlicensed operation, police said.

The Riverhead Town police department has already increased their Stop-DWI patrol efforts to enforce DWI laws and will continue their efforts throughout the year, police said.
