7 Injured In Head-On Mini-Bus Crash, Including 2 Children: PD

The Calverton crash took place Tuesday afternoon, police say.

CALVERTON, NY — Seven people, including two children, were injured in a mini-bus crash in Calverton Tuesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, the crash took place at the intersection of New York State Route 25 and New York State Route 25A at 2:50 p.m. A 911 call came in about a crash involving the mini-bus and a large SUV; upon arrival, officers determined that the mini-bus had been traveling westbound on State Route 25 and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Tahoe that was heading eastbound from State Route 25A onto State Route 25, police said.

The operator of the bus was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the two children on the bus were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries — one was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Wading River Ambulance and the other to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Wading River Ambulance, police said.

The three remaining passengers of the bus were all transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps with non-life- threatening injuries, police said.

The operator of the Chevrolet Tahoe was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life- threatening injuries by Wading River Ambulance, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the New York State accident reconstruction team were notified and responded to the scene to assist with the investigation, police said.

Roadways were closed during the investigation.
