8 Arrested on Conspiracy Charges on Friday

Suffolk says district attorney's office is investigating.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office is conducting an investigation following a string of felony conspiracy arrests in Riverhead on Friday. News of the investigation unearthed soon after the county's top cop, Thomas Spota, on similar charges throughout Long Island suspected of involvement with an Island-wide drug ring he said sold more than 1 million bags of heroin across the region.

Spota said the 16-month investigation found that two men, from the Bronx and Ridgewood, led the heroin ring. Suspects arrested in the ring lived from the Bronx to Hampton Bays.

Riverhead police were unwilling to comment on the arrests, only stating that the D.A.'s office was in charge of the investigation. Robert Clifford, spokesman for the D.A., confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and declined further comment until the investigation is complete.
