8 Charged With DWI in Riverhead, Southampton Towns
Five others arrested on various other charges during overnight East End DWI Task Force operation, police say.

More than a dozen people were arrested, with eight facing DWI charges, in Southampton and Riverhead towns during an overnight operation conducted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office East End DWI Task Force.
Southampton Town Police hosted one segment of the task force. Seven members of the task force from the Southampton Town Police Department, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, and the Southampton Village Police Department participated. Here are the DWI arrests they reported:
- Elvin M. Mendez, 21, of Mastic Beach– Driving while impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana
- Abel Depaz, 25, of Hampton Bays– DWI and first degree aggravated unlicensed operator
- Maria Fransisco, 46, of Flanders– DWI
- Andre Baskin, 39, of Riverhead– DWI
- William Debeauchamp, 61, of Smithtown– DWI
- Michele Schutte, 33, of Yaphank– DWI
Three other people were also arrested in Southampton– two for outstanding warrants and one for fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon (metal knuckle knife).

Riverhead Town Police reported the following arrests:
- Robert Conners, 26, of Sayville– DWI
- Roger Foster, 19, of Baiting Hollow– seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana
- John J. Piquette, 31, of Brooklyn– aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree
- Kenneth M. Sawler, 34, of Riverhead– aggravated DWI
