2 Fishermen Found Dead After Being Hit by Wave, Thrown Into Long Island Sound

BREAKING: The bodies of the two fishermen washed ashore Sunday morning, police say.

WADING RIVER, NY — The bodies of two missing fishermen who slipped into the water in Wading River Saturday have been recovered, according to Suffolk County Police.

The bodies of Luis Lala, 20, and Juan Loja, 18, both of Brentwood, washed ashore in Shoreham, roughly two to three miles from where they were hit by a wave Saturday as they crossed Wading River creek and were pulled into the Long Island Sound, police said.

A man walking his dog around 6 a.m. found the body of one of the men. When police responded to the scene, the bodies of both men were recovered.

According to the United States Coast Guard, around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, watch-standers from Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a report of three men who slipped into the water while fishing on the rocks near Wading River.

One male was able to grab onto a rock, pull himself onto the shore and call for help after he lost sight of the other two men in the water, the Coast Guard said in a release.
