Crispy Sugar Cookies Like Grandma Use To Make

Easy Crispy Sugar Cookies, just like grandma use to make!

I
love these cookies! I had misplaced the recipe for years and recently came
across it in an old file.  Every time I
would share these with my friends they would tell me the cookies tasted just
like their grandma use to make. I find them to be a plain crispy cookie that
you will not be able to stop at eating just one.  Although the original recipe did not call for
it, I add a small amount of freshly grated nutmeg to the batter.

1-Cup
shortening

1-Cup
sugar

2-eggs

1-teaspoon
real vanilla

2
and 1/2-Cups flour

1/2-teaspoon
salt

1/2-teaspoon
freshly grated nutmeg (optional)

Extra
sugar for topping

Preheat
oven to 375º Cream shortening and sugar until well combined.  Add eggs one at a time beating well after
each addition.  Add vanilla, nutmeg and
salt, beat again and then add flour until well mixed.

Drop
by Tablespoons or small ice cream scooper onto parchment or Silpat lined cookie
sheets.  Dip the bottom of a glass in
extra sugar for each cookie and flatten slightly.  Bake 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are
slightly browned on the edges.  Let the
cookies rest on the pan for a minute or two and then remove to wire rack.  Recipe makes approximately 4 dozen cookies.
