Cat Found Shot On Long Island

A $4,000 reward was offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the animal cruelty: SPCA

AQUEBOGUE, NY —A cat was found shot in Aquebogue Monday, the Suffolk County SPCA said.

According to the SPCA, an injured cat was found near Southfields Road and West Lane. The male cat, named Abraham by rescuers, was taken to an animal hospital where it was determined that it had been shot with a pellet that remains lodged in its spine.

The Suffolk County SPCA and Strong Island Rescue are offering a total reward of $4,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for "this heinous act of animal cruelty," the SPCA said.

Frankie Florida of Strong Island Rescue is presently caring for the cat, who is suffering from its injuries, the SPCA said.

"This horrific attack is a reminder of the dangers that cats face when they are left outdoors unprotected," the SPCA said. According to New York State law, intentionally harming an animal is a crime and punishable with imprisonment and/or a fine, the SPCA said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.

Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. Anyone who witnesses any incident of animal cruelty or neglect is asked to contact the Suffolk County SPCA.
