4-Year-Old Child, Mother Ejected from Taxi During 2-Car Crash: Police
Police have identified those injured in the accident.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A mother and her child, 4, were ejected from a taxi during a two-car crash in Riverhead Tuesday evening, police said.
According to Riverhead Town Police, a 911 call came in at 5:23 p.m. about a two-car crash on Roanoke Avenue, just south of Southern Parkway.
Estela Ortiz-Casia, 27, of Riverhead, and her son, 4, who were rear passengers, were ejected from the taxi and found on the ground, police said.

A 2006 Chrysler taxi driven by Zafar Mahmood, 59, of Riverhead, was heading south on Roanoke Avenue when it turned left into the travel lane of a northbound 2001 Dodge driven by Thomas D. Jones, 51, of Riverhead, police said.

All were treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene; mutual aid was also requested from Flanders-Northampton Ambulance, who also responded, police said.
A Suffolk County medevac responded to Riverhead High School, assisted by Riverhead Police and the Riverhead Fire Department, police said.
It was then determined that Ortiz-Casia be transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center via RVAC; she was later transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
Her little boy was taken by RVAC to Peconic Bay Medical Center, as well, police said.
Mahmood was taken by RVAC to Peconic Bay Medical Center and Jones was transported by FNHVA to Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.
The accident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
