RIVERHEAD, NY —Some of the rarest and most endangered sea turtles are in desperate need of a helping hand.
A GoFundMe Page, "Support RFMRP's Cold Stunned Sea Turtle Season," was created by The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation in December.
"New England has been hit hard this year with cold stunned sea turtles," the page said.

Due to their high numbers, the New England Aquarium has transferred nine Kemp's ridley — a rare and endangered species — and four loggerhead sea turtles to the Riverhead facility for treatment, the page said.
"Currently, we have 17 sea turtles in-house but that number will be continue to grow since cold stun season is not over yet. Now we need your help," the page said. "The squid that all of our patients eat costs about $2 per lb. — and we have lots of hungry turtles to feed. With your help, our patients will regain their strength and return to good health so that they can be released back to their home in the wild."

Donations, the RFMRP said, will help sea turtles get the food they need and proper medical care and treatment.
"Please help us give these turtles a second chance at life," the group said. "Every donation makes a difference."
For example, the page said, $4 equals one week of food for a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle; $16 equals one month of food for a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle; $28 equals one week of food for a ;oggerhead sea turtle; $35 equals one day of medical care for one sea turtle; $50 equals one week of clean water for one sea turtle; and $112 equals one month of food for a loggerhead sea turtle.
