DA: Flanders Man Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend Pleads Not Guilty

The man was arraigned on Thursday.

A Flanders man accused of brutally assaulting his pregnant girlfriend earlier this month, forcing the woman into emergency surgery to save the life of her unborn child, pleaded not guilty to a seven-count indictment on Thursday, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.

Police charged Mohammed Proctor, 38, with beating his pregnant girlfriend at his Flanders home on August 3, according to the DA.

Orders of Protection were issued by the court for the beating victim, Tiffany Norris, the infant and the couple’s 19 month old son, who witnessed the assault, the DA said.

Acting State Supreme Court Justice Mark Cohen set cash bail at $150,000 or $300,000 bond.

Norris, who was seven and a half months pregnant, suffered serious physical injuries, including two broken ribs, according to the DA.

The female newborn was delivered by caesarean section and she remains hospitalized at Stony Brook University Hospital, the DA said.

Proctor is charged with two counts of second degree assault, two counts of third degree assault, one count of criminal obstruction of breathing, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the DA.
