Professional Development: The Sexualization of Young Girls

Kerri Reda will discuss the many things that affect how a young girl develops her sense of self. Whether it is peer influence, puberty,  media, or influential adults, each play a role in how girls, ages 9-12, see themselves. Young girls are exposed to toxic messages daily.

This half-day training program is good for adults who work with girls, ages 9-12.

Reda will show participants how to:

  • Identify toxic messages that lead to things such as early sexualization, unhealthy food relationships, and poor body image
  • teach participants to identify the sources of these messages and how to minimize their negative impact
  • help girls build a more positive sense of self.

This event will be held at the Cornell location in Riverhead.
