Fire Breaks Out In Riverhead Apartment: Police
The fire was reported Thursday night; the apartment and neighboring apartments were evacuated, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY — A fire broke out in a Riverhead apartment Thursday night, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the fire was reported at 7:38 p.m. in an apartment on East Main Street. Officers helped evacuate the apartment and adjacent apartments, police said.
The first police officer at the scene was able to make entry into the apartment and extinguish the fire with the help of an apartment resident, authorities said. The fire was located in an upstairs bedroom, police said.

"Due to this quick response and action, major damage was avoided," police said.
The Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department and Riverhead Town fire marshal responded to further assist and investigate, police said.

The fire was determined to be accidental and electric, non-criminal in nature, with minor damage to the apartment — and no injuries were reported, police said.
