Fire Rips Through Jamesport Home

2 people who were inside the burning home were able to get out safely and treated for smoke inhalation, police say.

JAMESPORT, NY — Fire ripped through a Jamesport home Friday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the fire broke out at 11:18 p.m. at a home on Bayside Avenue. Responding officers found a "fully engulfed" home, which was gutted in the fire, officials said.

Both occupants of the home had safely exited the house and were later transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment of smoke inhalation, police said.

Jamesport, Riverhead, Flanders, Mattituck, and Cutchogue Fire Departments responded to extinguish the fire; the Riverhead Town fire marshal responded to the scene and conducted an investigation into the origin of the fire, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and at the current time is determined to be non-criminal in nature, police said.
